The Octa Lune is built around Calibre 1300, an automatic movement designed for a very long power reserve, with its complications arranged so the dial stays calm. Hours and minutes sit off-centre, with small seconds at 4:30, a large date, a power reserve indicator at 7:30 and a moon phase, all on a whitened guilloché silver dial with blued steel hands. It has plenty of information but reads at a glance, which is why the Octa Lune is one of the most respected everyday watches in modern independent watchmaking.
The 40mm case is platinum, F.P.Journe's preferred material for its most refined pieces, and it is only 10.6mm thick, so it slips under a cuff easily. Inside, the movement is built around a single large barrel with a one-metre mainspring. That gives more than five days of precision timekeeping, with an effective autonomy of around 160 hours. It is wound by an off-centre unidirectional rotor in 22K gold, and the free-sprung balance is adjusted with inertia weights and runs at a steady 21,600 vph. The movement is made up of 223 components (260 once cased), all finished by hand to Journe's standards, and it is visible through the sapphire caseback.
